A. Today’s fleets are considering all types of fuels — and robust reporting on these transactions is a must. The network of alternative fuel locations— from electric charging stations to CNG -- is doubling each year, so your fuel card choice should ensure you can make strategic decisions about your fleet’s make-up — and be able to fuel next-generation vehicles.
There are around 2 million electric vehicles worldwide now. In 2016, the industry saw the highest number of new sold EVs: 600,000 or 700,000. So, it’s growing, but today’s 2 million vehicles is only 2% of the entire vehicle population.
With the growth of EV, it will be important that fuel cards are accepted at charging stations. A lot of work is being done with the charging stations using mobile and RFID technologies, because a lot of the home charging points don’t have card readers on them. So EV purchases may have to be captured using your mobile device.
