The hiring of blockchain developers in 2019 has dropped drastically from last year, according to LinkedIn’s U.S. Emerging Jobs Report.

Blockchain developers held the spot as No. 1 emerging job in 2018 but didn’t even make the list this year as Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies continue to decline in popularity.

In the automotive industry, robotics engineers, data scientists, and artificial intelligence specialists are in demand with movement toward smarter cars, including the first self-driving vehicle, according to the report.

Other job trends include growth in the field of data science, a hiring demand for behavioral health technicians, and continued growth for engineering, with the emerging field of robotics.

A lower cost of living and more opportunities for remote work have created more job growth in smaller U.S. cities, including Austin, Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; Pittsburgh, Portland, Ore.; and Charlotte, N.C.

LinkedIn’s report named the top 15 U.S. emerging jobs this year as: artificial intelligence specialist, robotics engineer, data scientist, full stack engineer, site reliability engineer, customer success specialist, sales development representative, data engineer, behavioral health technician, cybersecurity specialist, back end developer, chief revenue office, cloud engineer, JavaScript developer, and product owner.
